So it’s like 2012. Let’s see if anything interesting happened since my last affiliate marketing news roundup post. Thank god for the holiday break though… less shit to sift through overall.

Affiliate Marketing News

The Secret to Getting Rich in 2012 is APIs. Yeah, that’s kind of a bullshit headline, but a good read nonetheless. There are many APIs available… creating a new service is just a matter of mashing these APIs together to provide something fresh and useful.

Probably the most interesting article you’ll find in this post: How to block AdBlock.

FinchSells launches Premium Posts Volume 3, one of the few things worth paying for in the affiliate marketing world.

Finch then writes about a flog with 7 offers on a single page. I see your 7 steps Finch, and raise you the 15-Step Flog.

One last one from Finch. How to really get rich in 2012. Pro-tip- it involves putting your head down and pumping shit out, not dicking around on Wickedfire or worse- writing blog posts!

Speaking of optimizing your time, here are 10 Firefox Addons for Freelancers. May not be relevant to many affiliate marketers, but the WOT Plugin is very useful for Facebook Advertisers.

Everything I know I learned from Eleah.

RedFly (not updated often but a great blog nonetheless) has a thorough post on using Google’s in-Page Analytics.

Here’s a neat breakdown of the Louie CK experiment. If you don’t think Louis CK funny, kill yourself with AIDS.

Really cool post about a “Searcher’s Mindset” and there’s an infographic involved!

Nickycakes writes about the excellent WhatRunsWhere service. What’s this… Cakes updating his blog more than once a year? That’s right, another post to unlock the time-saving power of virtual assistants.

Speaking of ad spying, Zac Johnson ( I apologize in advance for linking you there) has a post about Moat.com, another neat tool to add to your arsenal.

Mr. Dan Palanchuk has a couple good reads. Some shit you can learn from Mr Green, and 5 Weird Facts about Affiliate Network Offers. Good information in there… go direct whenever possible!

Hilarity from Mr Green as he describes 5 types of affiliate managers.

Great post on PPVPlaybook – Making Chee$e with Trends.

Direct Response has a good breakdown on sweet, juicy cloaking.

White Label Dating launched a mobile platform. I’ve never worked with this network, but there is definitely some opportunity there.

Four ways to unlock the traffic power of Browsers. Good stuff – make a toolbar or plugin that sticks to the user’s browser. Still clueless? Here’s how people are doing it.

Jay Weintraub dissects a good internet marketing scam.

I’m only linking to this because the stock photo being used is HILARIOUS. HAHA Grandpa, you ol’ pimp you.

Mobile

Smaato releases new metrics on mobile ad network fill rates and response times and such.

Facebook is slowly but surely blending ads into their mobile apps. Judging by how fast Facebook’s mobile traffic is growing, great opportunity lies here in 2012.

This post is about the upcoming Affiliate Summit West show, happening in Las Vegas January 8th thru 10th.

Now, there are two main things that people keep pestering me about… Am I fighting Shoemoney and Where the Parties At?

Affiliates with No Balls

Let’s start with Shoemoney.

No I will not be fighting Shoemoney.

As much as I wanna do this, Shoemoney has health concerns regarding his precious appendages.

While I’m not going to run around claiming this cheesy, give-away victory, I do encourage all of my readers to call Shoemoney a pussy, bitch, or nancyboy at every opportunity.

Also, Clickbooth jacked the Fight Night idea, but theirs will probably suck. It doesn’t look like there will be actual fights. Just meet Randy Coulture and shake his hand or some shit.

Affiliate Ball

Next is some information on one of the better parties for Affiliate Summit, Affiliate Ball.

PPC.bz ( The Party Planning Committee ) passed on the party torch to Darren at last years ASW 2011. The performer was 3 6 Mafia and it a lotta fun, but I’m not even going to lie and say my brain wasn’t warped on drugs during that whole conference. I haven’t been to a conference since last year’s Vegas, so I can’t say anything about the awesomeness of Affiliate Ball parties since, but Darren is a godamn professional.

Below is Darren’s detail’s of the Affiliate Ball. Sign up or Sponsor, FOOL!

Sponsorships are still open.
Hit up Darren – info [@] affiliateball.com!

This time around, we really stepped up our game up a notch.

MaxBounty Presents The Affiliate Ball will have a top 3 performer of the decade named by Billboard, Nelly. He’s going to perform a full concert infront of 2500 invited guests of the Ball. I recommend everyone interested in attending should register online at http://affiliateball.com/registration.html to guarantee their ticket. All passes can be picked up at our Affiliate Ball Meet Market table.

We are the only “official” party of the Affiliate Summit on January 9th. We welcome everyone at the show to come party with us. For those who don’t like Nelly’s music, we still have a few DJ’s that play a mix of everything and some smoking hot Go Go dancers provided by our friends at EnvyusMedia/Scrubkit. YT Cracker is one of our super star DJ’s. The other is DJ Diamond who was also the DJ for Beyonce, Prince, Diddy, Executioners, Making Da Band and more. He’s a battle DJ and puts on a crazy show.

This event has a few reserved tables left, all of them come with HUGE exposure. If anyone is interested, I’ll put a logo on the big screens all night in rotation, text link on the site and promo in our RSVP’d newsletter, thanks on the microphone and 20 VIP’s with every table. Super deal right now, your peeps can hit me up directly at info [@at ] affiliateball.com. Trust me, I’m not breaking the bank on my prices. I will guarantee this party will be regarded as the best party and the biggest of all time. I’ve thrown some good ones too so that’s big statement ;)

For those who don’t know, the party is on January 9th (Monday night), starts at 9:30 until whenever. Same venue as last years when we did Three 6 Mafia, Crown Theater at the Rio.

Oh yeah, one last thing I’d like to address. In the past, before I started throwing the big parties at these trade shows, there were horrible girl to guy ratios at industry parties. That has changed this year with the Affiliate Ball. Also consider that most women at the show are dying to see Nelly and are huge fans. You might even see more girls then guys this time!

Get in where you fit in…

Holy shit it’s almost December. At this rate, by the time i finish this sentence, it will be just after Christmas.

Now, let’s see if Google Reader has anything good for us during this month of November. Overall, it’s a relatively quiet month compared to my previous “Best of” posts. Probably because everyone has their heads down grinding the fuck out till Christmas Eve.

Industry News

IMToday bought a banner recently so let’s give them a shout out. It’s kind of like Affbuzz, but apparently its handed-edited, unlike Affbuzz, which uses an algorithm of hits and clicks and a sprinkle of pixie dust.

Do you run traffic on Lead Impact? Are you a fucking ninja? NO?! THEN BECOME A LEAD IMPACT NINJA. THIS ISN’T NEWS BUT THE LANDING PAGE IS SO FUNNY ITS WORTH MENTIONING. WHY AM I YELLING?! Ninjas don’t yell…

Take a knee. This is my new favorite website.

OK on to some real news.

Affiliate marketing is still dead or dying, because this post on DirectResponse.net says so. Joking aside, there are many good points there on why the affiliate ecosystem tends to eat itself. There’s another good post on DR that can help you reduce charge backs.

If you’re feeling voyeuristic, DR also posted up this recorded call that has some good insight into the advertiser side of the online marketing space. Definitely worth a listen.

Do you suck at Google? That’s probably because you’re not a brand. Everything Google has been doing the past few years has been giving preferential treatment to brands, and kicking SEOs / small businesses to the curb. Aaron Wall says so in this fancy infographic.

I’ve been too busy to post about WhatRunsWhere again, but Finch did it so you can just head on over there.

Mr. Green has a new case study on the 310px ads at Plenty of Fish. I ask, is there any traffic left on PoF that isn’t going to Mr. Green’s case studies?

Here’s a good post on image ad blending. Basically, making your ads look like content of the targeted website.

Are you doing Lead Generation? Silly question, but Kiss Metrics has a nice post on improving the effectiveness of your lead gen sites.

Speaking of Leadgen, eConsultancy has a good series on improving your skills. Part 1 and Part 2.

Mobile, Facebook

Ruck has an extensive rant on mobile click fraud. Mobile marketing is dead already.

Mobile is exploding. Yes, still, even though its dead. Check out these pretty charts from Unbounce as they look at some sweet Swedish mobile traffic.

Check out how mobile apps are being monetized. Hint: Its in-app sales. Not convinced? Here’s so more data off Techcrunch.

With all these talk of “the future,” there’s still opportunity in video, whether desktop, pad, or phone.

Copywriting and Sales

I like info marketing blog because it talks a lot about old school copywriting greats. This is a new blog I follow so I won’t link to anything specific, but check that shit out if you’re a fan.

Direct Creative Blog has a good post on working with testimonials, and how you can integrate them properly into a marketing campaign instead of pasting them randomly on a page.

Are you building email lists via mobile? Here are some tips for making that more effective. Time is critical!

Motivation

Do you like to look busy by scribbling stuff on paper? I know I do ( if you only saw my desk…) Finch has a good post on why this is bad at Filthy Rich Mind.

Also Finch is banking pretty good with those Premium Posts. Maybe it’s time other bloggers to start providing real quality content over the drivel they post daily ( * just kidding John Chow doesn’t know anything worth paying money for.)

And finally, How to have a 36 day. Better yet…. how to work from home without going insane.

It turns out I start writing these posts as drafts, then I forget to finish and post. So technically some of these reads are from September. This very post took like 2 weeks to write. Stop judging me.

What’s good in the affiliate marketing blogosphere? Not a whole lot really, because most blogs are shit. Also i hate the word blogosphere. Almost as much as I hate that new buzzword “mocial” (mobile social media)

Anyway…

Google is getting audited by the IRS. Finally, Google gets fucked over. Sweet merciful justice. Although I’m sure their legal team is ready to ride…

Affiliate and Online Marketing Stuff

While we’re on the topic of saying F4WK J00 to Google, here are some leaked Quality Score Guidelines.

There’s probably no point to reading the rest of this post since Affiliate Marketing IS DEAD! Get out as soon as you can while there are still job openings at Subway! HURRY! RIP 11/1/11 Never Forget.

Wait, maybe it’s not dead. If you look at this survey about affiliate marketing from Econsultancy, then it looks like the space is actually getting busier. Now I’m confused! Who can I trust?

Prosper 1.7 was released. I haven’t messed with it yet, but CTRTard is already on it with some mods.

How big is Facebook’s dick? Sorry Pingdom but I like my title better. Pingdom also takes a look at the popularity of various social networks around the world.

DirectResponse says the Force Factor landing page is pretty good. DR also has an “Insider’s Guide to Media Buying” that is pretty interesting.

DM Confidential posts this press release that dives into which Facebook Posts get the most attention.

Motivation Hacks

Some of this stuff is a little cheesy, but hell, we’re not perfect. Sometimes we need a kick in the “arse.”

Looks like Finch is expanding his writing portfolio by writing a post for Filthy Rich Mind called How to Improve Your Concentration in 4 Easy Steps.

More Facebook and Mobile Stuff to Come

I’m planning on creating a little resource for blogs specific to Facebook and Mobile Development and Marketing. That way, I will refer your lazy asses to said resource instead of reading the shit myself and making posts out of it.

You may have heard about EWA Network because it’s all over the internet. If there’s unsold ad inventory on a blog such as this, Birdman is buying it, putting up a slew of seizure-inducing multi-colored banners, and pissing off the blog’s readers.

But this strategy leaves a lot of mystery in its wake. Someone who is not familiar with affiliate marketing might be intrigued by one of these miraculous banners, but still has the question: “What is EWA Private Network?”

The Truth Behind EWA Network

For the answer, we turn to the world’s most respectable information site on the entire internet: Yahoo Answers.

For decades, Yahoo Answers has answered many of man’s greatest questions with the power of the collective mind. “Is there a God?” “Do I look pretty in this picture?” and the ever-classic, “How is babby formed?”

.Hack stumbled upon one question on Yahoo Answers that a lot of people have asked: What is ewa private network? (capitalization not necessary)

The geniuses who provided answers to this question show some great insight into the mystery.

But first, the question:

some of my friends they have begun talking about working and starting their own business. One of them always talks about ewa private network. I was wondering what is that?? he said he now owns his own business and such.

are they like a makreting group? do they make that much money? my friend he said he started his own business and now “husttles” or makes banks everyday….is it true? I met his friends and alot of them seem cocky, their like I drive new cars everyweek, I wipe out anyone who isnt my friend I crush competitors and I sleep with different women every night. do you really make that much??

Key takeaways

Business owners, also known as “husttlers,” make banks everyday. Friends of “husttlers” should be cocky, drive new cars every week, crush the competition, and most important sleep with a different woman every night.

Of course, every business owner should aspire for these things. Not a profitable, sustainable, and professional business but the ability to drive a new whip every day of the week and a new bitch every time you change the sheets.

The Answers to What is EWA Network

The chosen “Best Answer” is a bit of a tease.

supposidly my friend opened his own he says he advertises on facebook and myspace and he has enough money from this to pay for two cars, his college tuition but my other friend sais this is all bs and hes only lying he isnt making much

So, is Ryan Eagle all BS, or is he a multi-car owning, college tuition paying, facebook killing stud?

You can’t see him, he can barely see him.
Source(s):
Ryan Eagle

We’re getting closer to the answer…

There’s no way something like that exists! Must be a scam!

Affiliate marketing is too good to be true, therefore it is a scam. Also, affiliate marketing is dead. Again.

Affiliate marketing died a long time ago. If you hear the term make money online run because it’s not possible. Anyone who tell of this is speaking of an Urban Myth that you can sit at home and make monies from the said internet. If you want to see proof visit www.MakeMoniesOnline.com and it is all explained. Ryan Eagle is unfindable, I once heard a tale that he soars above the skies, higher than a plane. When one cannot see thyself, one cannot seek to find them.

I’m starting to worry that a lot of you Wickedfire members spend too much time on Yahoo Answers. +rep for the MakeMoniesOnline.com link, it’s a very helpful website for newbies!

But he is correct. The tales of Ryan Eagle’s of mystery and intrigue rival that of the Most Interesting Man in the World.

In fact, I heard a story once that Ryan Eagle and the Most Interesting Man in the World ended up in the same Chicago bar. The Most Interesting Man in the world was asked to leave because of the bar’s “One Alpha Male at a Time” policy.

I’m very familar with this group. They are a cult no doubt. Yes most of them are rich. They flaunt their money and talk about the wonders of capitalism and such. They Fly ” High “. They are led by a crazy young leader named Ryan who is always creating wierd pictures in photoshops of eagles doing strange things. They listen to rap music. They use slang like ‘hustle” “grind” and “stunting on competition” to brag about the way they get monies day and night. Stay far away from these people. They will brainwash you into thinking you could do this too. Nothing but a cult of young rich capatalists. A small group but they are growing odds are if you click an ad somewhere online around the world you are feeding this money whore called EWA!

I … am … speechless. This paragraph pretty much describes anyone who is “killing it” in affiliate marketing. Cult of Rich Young Capitalists. BRING ON THE DOM PERIGNON AND HAVE THIS PEASANT SHINE MY SHOES!

We make all of our money off of gay prison dating websites. It’s really hard though, nothing hits quite as hard as life, not you, not me, not nobody. So you have to go behind life’s back to get what you need, Carpe Rearem is the company motto.

The ads don’t always fit. So we jam it in, make it work, even if we get a little blood and sweat on our hands. All of our affiliates are hard 24/7.

We have this term, called banking, or “exploding” a campaign. It’s where we get so many leads behind us that we explode with profit from the inside.

We have this technique called the “Eagle”, that’s how 80% of our money is made. We have one guy sit behind two others, and he reaches in and explodes two campaigns at the same time, while getting exploded from both sides by other affiliates. It makes insane amounts of money.

Wow buddy! Don’t give away all the secrets!

its widely known that EWA is a private network. this network is in fact so private, that along with an invite, you need to know and are tested on things like: whats tattooed on his second cousins ***, how to speak pig latin, what the color of ryans shoes are on a tuesday morning, how to tie a knot like a eagle scout, and the square root of $.

This is true. To join EWA Network (well, you can’t), you need to read the Ryan Eagle Encyclopedia (11th edition was just released) front to back. If you don’t score at least an 1500 on the EWA Network entrance exam… well, better luck next year. (that is, if affiliate marketing is still around)

Mystery Solved!

The last answer on the page reveals the true secret. Unfortunately it wasn’t chosen as the “Best Answer” but when all is said and done, this is the truth.

Greetings,

EWA Network was created by Nick Throlson, Ryan Eagle is just an alter ego of his. In fact everyone in this cult called internet marketing is just an alter ego of Throlson’s. Your friend has indeed been brainwashed. I would check your friend’s neck to see if their are any vampiric bite marks, it’s one of the biggest signs that he is indeed in this cult.

What if these things could be explained? What if you can explain why your friends are driving around in super cars and iced out from head to toe? What if you can explain why Eagle has more commas in his bank account than a purebred ginger has freckles? Why is the sky blue? Why is Pace Lattin batshit crazy? Nothing can be explained… I am sorry but nothing can be explained… I wouldn’t ask more questions and pretend you never posted this. These cult members are vicious and will track you down through the googles and rape your ancestors, family, bank account, and kill you. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Industry News

Justin Bieber wear’s women’s jeans. How’s that for breaking news?

OK, on to the real stuff…

Always entertaining, AdHustler’s “Observations” during Affiliate Summit East. Affiliate Summit Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3. Some Sun Tzu shit.

Shake-ups at the 202 Offices. Wes is stepping down as CEO. All good because Nana keeps the hustle up with posts like this. I also heard there was a 1.7 version being released or has been released, haven’t tried it yet though.

DirectResponse points out that crime does, in fact, pay.

You can’t even see this interview that Ryan Eagle did on Ricky Ahuja’s blog. Not even I can see it. Maybe you can see this one on Z6. NOope, can’t see that either.

Ruck apparently broke it off with C2M. I don’t know what the drama is all about, but Ruck’s gone guru basically. That’s fine, since he’s one of the people who actually practices what he preaches. There’s been a ton of posts to the IMGrind Blog, so just subscribe because I’m not going to list them all here.

Also, join the IM Grind Internet Marketing Forums if you really want to step your game up.

Speaking of blogs that are good enough to subscribe to, BoostCTR is an absolutely amazing read for learning how to write response-driven copy for online. There’s too much good content there to highlight, so read the whole damn blog you git!

MobAff Blog from the Angry Russian is another one worth subscribing to. If you’re in the mobile marketing space at all, there isn’t that much good content out there compared to SEO or PPC or something. This commie sheds some light on the subject. If you’re not into mobile, MobAff’s first post could change your mind.

I haven’t read through all of Scotch and Sales yet, but looks like another promising blog to follow. All I know is that I enjoy sales while drinking scotch with a finely rolled Cuban cigar.

Paid Search, Social, and Conversions

This Shannon chick from PlentyofFish writes a good post on how to advertise to women. I’m going to write a post on how to advertise to Shannon :: wink ::

Here’s Part2: Advertising to Women.

The people that kill in direct mail are advertising masters. Here’s a nice Q&A from Direct Creative with some great info about copy and response.

Conversion Rate Experts has this neat little “Process” for Conversion Rate Optimization.

6 Elements of a Failed Facebook Campaign from MoneyMachines Blog. Very good read!

Here’s a great post from MrGreen with some great copywriting goodies. The follow up post has bacon in it. That’s all that matters.

Facebook launches Topic targeting in the ads. New to me, I’ve only played around with the broad categories they implemented a while ago but not this.
Women Click Facebook Ads more than Men.

I’ll just leave this right here… Script: FBPwn – Cross-platform Facebook profile dumper.

The scumbags at Google Adwords have started reviewing paused ads. BlackHatPPC tells you how to avoid the slap from some random ad you made in 2002.

While you’re at it, BlackHatPPC also drops some black hat ppc tools that you should have.

To add insult to injury, the Adwords team has the balls to post this about Affiliate Marketing. “Hey businesses! Promote your business through affiliate marketing… even though we hate affiliates!” I guess it’s all gravy as long as the affiliate program is Google’s own.

It’s OK though. If you’re a big brand or have an “in” somehow, PPCBlog shows you how to do straight-up Adwords to Adsense Arbitrage.

Oh yeah… if you ever wondered why Google’s support is absolute shit, here’s why: They’d rather have cash then hire more people.

Programming

Great post from CTRTard on how to install the Maxmind GeoIP extension. I did this a few months back (all by myself, somehow…) and it’s significantly faster then any 3rd party service you source within your website.

Did you ever wonder… “I don’t have enough buttons to use on my landing pages.” Fear no more, because CTRTard.com does a guestpost on PPVPlaybook’s blog: Killer CSS Buttons.

Below is a press-release slash Letterman Top 10 list from the good peoples at Adsimilis. Holler at them for great international offers focused on dating and games, among other things (like the sexiest staff in the Affiliate Marketing game :: winks at Sean ;) :: But more importantly, read about the meetup!:

Adsimilis will be hosting Europe’s first Meetup August 6th! We felt it was time to bring the affiliate meetup to Europe, and what a better spot than infamous Amsterdam? You know it’s been on your “To Do” list so why not stop putting it off and take advantage of networking in one of the world’s biggest party cities with like minds and then writing it off as a work expense?

Top 10 Excuses to Throw a MeetUp in Amsterdam:

10. Float that boat. Amsterdam is famous for it’s canals, and the particular weekend of the meetup coincides with one of Amsterdam’s biggest boat parade parties! Since we’re never one to sit out on the fun, we’ve reserved our own boat to join the party and cruise the city in style.

9. You snooze you lose. Time’s running out to “space out” at one of Amsterdam’s coffee shops, which will be closing to tourists in 2012. Go on, Google it if you don’t believe me.

8. Brew Ha Ha. Beer lovers, listen up…with over 1,200 diverse and vibrant pubs, Amsterdam is one of the unofficial beer havens of Europe. When you’re not pub’in it (get it?) you can tour the Heineken brewery. Shoot whisky like a real man? Try De Stil, Spuistraat 326, which stocks 150 different single malt whiskies. Stay thirsty my friends.

7. Window Shopping. Come see the infamous Red Light district. The “merchandise” can be interesting, but checking out all the skeevo’s taking pictures are also worth the visit. I’m looking at you Barman. (Editor’s note: I don’t pay for sex!)

6. Unleash your inner nerd. Before there were computer geeks, there were history and museum nerds. Release your inner nerd out by perusing the many museums Amsterdam has to offer from the Anne Frank Museum to Van Gogh museum. Savvy up and soak in a little culture by the famous Rembrandt and Vermeer, checking out the set of Oceans 12 or catching a world famous DJ set.

5. Party Hardy. The parade festival is all week long and culminating on Saturday August 6th with the 2nd biggest street party of the year. Some of the best DJs in the world are flying out for the event, and the city is jammed packed with festivities. And let’s be honest, the city doesn’t even need an excuse to throw a good party.

4. Get your Carmen San Diego on. Amsterdam is perfectly situated for you to jump off to Paris, London, Brussels (all of which are a short train ride away via high speed train/chunnel), or on to Italy, Spain, Germany or a multitude of European destinations to work on your “international relations.”

3. Sleep’s overrated. Being so far north, the sun doesn’t start to go down until 10pm and the Dutch take advantage of their long summer days and bring the party into the night, and Amsterdam has no shortage of nightlife or bars!

2. You know how you always tweet about your Gucci, Louis, Fendi and Insert Logos here that end in “ee”, but actually never leave the confines of your home office (read: ‘rents basement) and dress semi homeless? Now’s your time to actually get some sunshine, show off that swag and pick up some new European goodies.

1. Dutch chicks dig interweb nerds. Well, perhaps the verdict for that is still out, but you don’t know until you go!
