I got this interesting email today from someone claiming to be from Godaddy billing department but with a different number that happens to be a market expansion line for the same area code as Godaddy.

According to a bunch of comments on 800notes.com its obviously a scam where they try to phish your godaddy account and get your credit card info. So I decided to have a little fun with them. Unfortunately I didn’t think I could pull it off and did it on a whim so I didn’t get it recorded, but here’s the general transcript.
<THEM> Thank you for calling billing this is Keith how may I help you?
<ME> Hi, I got an email from Matthew saying my account has expired and now my website goes to some Godaddy page whats going on?
<THEM> No problem I can help you out with that. What’s your customer number and I’ll look up your information.
<ME> Umm I don’t know my customer number. How would I find that? Should I talk to Matthew he’s the one who emailed me he’ll probably have it.
<THEM> Unfortunately Matthew is not available but I can still help you out. What’s the email address on the account. I can find your customer number from that.
<ME> James@makemoniesonline.com
<THEM> Okay got it. It looks like your account has expired. What is your name and the domain you got the email about?
<ME> James and its makemoniesonline.com (spelled it out for him). How did it expire? I thought it wasn’t supposed to expire for another month or so! Now its gone and my website is going to some Godaddy page.
<THEM> Yes your domain doesn’t expire until April but its probably a problem with the hosting.
<ME> My hosting? Oh no I thought my hosting was good. Does my website work for you? I just get a godaddy page.
<THEM> Yep I just get the godaddy page to.
<ME> You sure?

I got a call from that same number today, also telling me my domain had expired. The best part: it was really GoDaddy.com. They pulled up a bunch of my account info that they would not have had if they were scammers. I told them nothing, other than my zipcode for verification.
In conclusion: you dickrolled Godaddy. Good times.
ummm…. yah. It really is godaddy… so congratz on being a jackass to customer support. lol I don’t think it’s a bad thing though… when you are in phone support or sales you HAVE to have thick skin. Only the strong survive haha. If you are going to call and get commission off me then Imma make you work for it…
