TechCrunch Homos Break Mafia Wars

November 2nd, 2009 by Barman Leave a reply »

So I like Mafia Wars. Fuck you. It’s a brainless task I spend 5 minutes on every few hours. I don’t know why I do it. I just fucking do.

And I see this a few minutes ago:

FUCK

There is a bigger picture here fellas. PPC.bz will get to the bottom of the story once I start to care. But rest assured people at TechCrunch has beef with the way these games are monetized. Why…all of the sudden, there are many “articles” about the way these games are monetized. Why is it all of the sudden, such a big deal that article after article needs to posted about how these games make money hand over fist?

Does Arrington have a beef because he’s jealous of a company that’s raking it in by the bucket load? Zynga is a legitimate, investor backed company. Does he run a competitor and want to push some bad press their way?

Who the fuck knows, I don’t really read TechCrunch. But I do have this to say…

Dear Techcrunch: Fuck off.

There was earlier coverage which seemed neutral/mildly positive by Erick Schonfeld:

This change of tone by Arrington seems a little schizophrenic.

mike arrington started out with his shady domain drop catcher pool.com. Year later, he proceeded to demonize that entire industry: http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/03/godaddy-uses-standard-tactics-to-warehouse-domains/

thats just one example of him bashing the business tactics of domain auction houses, after he made his money doing it with pool.com.

I just started playing Mafia Wars and Vampires – why anyone would complain about how these companies make their money is crazy. Maybe their pissed that they didn’t think of it sooner?! I thought it’s rather ingenious to offer-up a free app, and then make money from people who want to “cheat” by buying additional points. You could really expand the advertising in these types of games. Not sure if it would work – but why not something like collecting e-mails for an opt-in subscription to something related to the game and in turn the user gets xx additional points… they do something similar right now. Everytime I start the game on my Touch I’m asked to install app xyz for xx points.
